This lamp was built almost entirely from salvaged materials. The desk lamp arm came from a friend of mine who got a bunch of lamp parts at an auction. The tin cans were obviously saved from being thrown away. The base was a cutting a board that broke in half. The cord came with the lamp arm, and the socket and switch were salvaged from another broken lamp. Even the screws I used were pulled out of a dumpster. I think the only new parts on this lamp is the black pipe parts I used to make the mount for the lamp arm.
This was made specifically to use on a desk or workbench. The adjustable arm makes it so you can focus the light where you need it, and the tin cans mounted to the base are a great place to put pens & pencils, scissors, screwdrivers, or whatever tools you can fit in them. I've left some space along the front of base so if you wanted to drill some holes and customize it to fit your own specific tools, there's some room for that.
