I really like a lamp with more than one bulb so that you can have a bright one and a dim one and use them individually or together depending on how much light you need.
2 vintage bakelite knobs on rotary switches turn the bulbs on and off individually. The phenolic sockets match the bakelite knobs pretty nicely too.
